BSL Taster Course
Last summer, we set up a BSL taster course via an online platform throughout the pandemic. Many people have learnt a lot from the course and enjoyed the BSL sessions.
In September, we decided to set up a full BSL course via an online platform and before Christmas, the attendees passed their first BSL 101 Unit exam. They will continue learning BSL to gain their full Level 1 qualification in the summer of 2021.
Testimony from learners.
"I am so happy that I have passed my 101 exam. I am thoroughly enjoying learning BSL and will continue to complete other units to improve my sign language skills. The exam was comfortable and expectations were clearly explained prior. Dawn is a lovely and warm teacher and I thank her and BSL for providing this opportunity. " - Kayleigh Pritchard
"Since undertaking the BSL level 1 course I have grown in confidence. I was so anxious about doing the course and surprised that I grasped the language and passed the first exam. Dawn and the interpreter have been fantastic and supportive. The course has been interrupted by the Coronavirus, but teaching and learning the way we have has created a new and exciting learning environment. I would recommend this course as it's fun, interesting and this is an excellent skill to have. Dawn and the interpreter have worked hard to ensure we gain the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully pass BSL 101. Overall, I'm looking forward to completing and passing BSL 102. I would recommend doing this course to anyone. " - Melvena Anderson
"For the BSL Unit 101 exam, I certainly had mixed emotions. I was excited to be able to put together all of the skills we had learnt but I was also a little apprehensive due to nerves! I was elated to have passed as learning to sign has been something I have wanted to do for several years due to my Uncle being deaf. I am loving learning with Dawn as she is a fantastic teacher and has the patience of a saint! Although there is a lot more content to learn for the Unit 102 exam, I am excited to continue learning!" - Helen Mockler
