The Art of Poi

Poi spinning is the art of swinging tethered weights through a variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns.

For us, it was two bean balls inside lycra sacks- which was puzzling as none of us knew what to expect!

Terry started us off with a background of where Poi comes from and how it was used which was fascinating.

He led us in warming up first (warming up is important as the muscles need to be stretched out if they aren’t they can get hurt,)

Terry then showed us some one-handed movement which we copied before moving on to using both hands to make rhythmical movements which was no mean feat! We kept getting them tangled up, and someone ended up on the other side of the room!

We played a game that showed how well we could copy which was similar to deaf whispers but different!

We enjoyed ourselves and would love to do it again!  Thanks, Terry for coming in and showing us what is Poi and the basics of it!
