St John's Ambulance First Aid training

We decided we would need to update our First Aid skills and who better to teach us than St John’s Ambulance. Some of the attendees had never been part of the training session and were looking forward to learning new skills.

Jan and Joy, the trainers explained what they do and why it was important to have a basic knowledge of first aid skills. It doesn’t matter how old you need to be, it could be as young as 6 or as late as 60+, it is never too early or too late to learn a useful skill.

We started with the basics of DR ABC which is an acronym to help us remember what to do in a dangerous situation, respond to someone if breathing by putting them in a recovery position and identify someone who might need CPR or might need to use an AED. we then had some practice putting people in the recovery positions.

When the training was over they checked that we had the BSL999 app and knew how to use it and when to use it.

Thanks to Jan and Joy from St John’s Ambulance and to Heart of England Community Fund for providing the funding to make it possible.
