Planning for later life
Our Outreach officer, Shifa, organised a workshop on 'Later Life Planning' by Helen from Public Health, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council. This was held at the Newhampton Arts Centre in Wolverhampton on 15th January.
The presenter covered the following:
- Planning for retirement and after retirement
- Staying in work
- Getting back into work
- Bereavement
- Preparing for one's own possible care
- Other life changes
Helen encouraged clients to feel more prepared for making future plans and to be in a better position to make the most out of later life.
For example,
- Staying Healthy
- What exercise can be done now and taken into later life?
- What is healthy eating? What sort of foods?
- What keeps the mind active?
This helps clients to make good decisions to take care of their body.
Helen put the clients into groups to share ideas and interact with new people, as some of the clients were new!
She encouraged them to feel more comfortable talking with family about their wishes and needs for later life.
Flyers were given to clients to take home, encouraging them to think about their lifestyle and consider making changes to become healthier, such as incorporating exercise.
We want to extend our sincere thanks to Helen for coming and explaining this invaluable information.
This workshop wouldn't have been possible without the funding from 'Know Your Neighbourhood'. Your support made a significant impact on the lives of those attending.
