New exciting role
Zebra Access is delighted to have received funding from The Heritage Lottery to collate and preserve 100 years of Walsall Deaf history digitally over the next 2 years.
The role of Walsall Deaf Heritage Project Officer will be instrumental in liaising with Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing and Deafened people (and their families/friends etc) that have lived or visited Walsall over the past 100 years to collect all photos, video clips, stories and anything associating to Walsall Deaf history to preserve them with support from the Project Development Manager and team.
This is a project funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund and candidates applying for this role will need to:
- Have experience of being involved in projects and recording evidences.
- Understanding of how to research, gather and preserve historical Deaf data/stats, archives, photos, stories, videos and so on digitally.
- Develop and provide 1 to 1 and group sessions to discuss and collect information, materials and stories relating to Walsall Deaf history.
- Work with other local and Deaf related organisations and partners to make sure their input, history and stories are also included.
- Be a self-starter and able to work on your own initiative.
- Be a fluent BSL user.
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be able to communicate with a wide range of people in a variety of settings.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about:
- History of Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing and Deafened people.
- Making sure that Deaf history is preserved and archived, not erased.
- Increasing awareness of Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing and Deafened people’s histories.
- Working towards eliminating the barriers that Deaf people face on a daily basis.
Job Title: Walsall Deaf Heritage Project Officer
CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed term until February 2026.
SALARY: The salary for this post is £28,000 per annum pro rata.
HOURS: 24 hours per week. Flexible working is essential. Days of work will be agreed upon appointment. however, it may be necessary to work additional hours to complete your duties, for which time in lieu will be awarded accordingly.
