black Country Healthy Living- Men's Health

This was the third health workshop as part of the Black Country Healthy Living Project which was funded by Heart of England (who also funded previous activities like walks and trips).

We started with a morning workshop about cancer with a focus on Male biological cancers which are penile, prostate, and testicular.

The Engagement Specialists (Macmillan Personalised Care)

Lesley, and Kassie from the Black Country ICB came back again to deliver a really interesting presentation.

There were a lot of assumptions around prostate testing and that men avoid going because it is an invasive procedure however the way the prostate is tested has been changed but it is not widely understood and the access to information is poor. It can be done with a simple blood test!

There were also props showing different sizes of the prostate which were interesting to look at.

We also were shown a cushion that explained how men could check their testicles as well props similar to the breast ones to see if a lump could be identified.

With a tasty lunch, we then moved on to the second workshop of the day which was delivered by the outreach officer from SignHealth who talked about the taboo subject of men who live through domestic abuse as the % for women might be higher but it can happen to men too. The workshop also addressed what men could do to prevent inappropriate behaviour when they see it happening

We would like to thank the Black Country ICB and SignHealth for coming along to deliver great workshops and we hope to work more with them in the future.

This would have not been possible without the funding from Heart of England Community Fund
