Winter Pressure Workshop - The Macmillan Deaf Cancer Support Project

Winter Pressures Workshop - The Macmillan Deaf Cancer Support Project

On the 30th of January, we had our first remote Winter Pressures workshop to discuss how having cancer can affect people’s mental health and provided tips on how people can improve their mental health. On behalf of the Macmillan Deaf Cancer Support Project, Niki Johnson, Susan, and Claire delivered the workshop to raise the awareness of their new project. The new project has been set up to support deaf individuals with cancer and deaf careers, who are all on challenging journeys.

Being diagnosed with cancer or seeing someone you love being diagnosed with cancer can have a big impact on your mental health, which can impact your physical and mental wellbeing. For deaf individuals, the experience can be much more stressful due to communication barriers and confidence issues.

Niki explained that The Macmillan Deaf Cancer Support Project can support you with your cancer journey as they can help you with coping emotionally by providing you with support and peer support. Niki explained that they have advocacy services within their team to support you regarding your right to access information and ensure that you have less stressful experiences.

If you are worried or stressed about yourself or someone you love being diagnosed with cancer, please look at The Macmillan Deaf Cancer Support Project website for more information. If you need additional support, Zebra Access is happy to support you with accessing their services.

A big Thank you to Niki, Susan, and Claire for coming to come talk to us about how having cancer can affect your mental health and how to improve your mental health.
