The Mayor of the City of Wolverhampton is a BSL Ally

Recently Deirdre, our Community Development Officer visited the Mayoral Suite at the City Council of Wolverhampton and there she met the Mayor of the City of Wolverhampton-Councillor Sandra Samuels OBE (Ettingshall).

Deirdre was there as part of the Sign Language Week that took place 13th– 19th March. Deirdre had a conversation with the Mayor explaining what her role covers and how Zebra Access supports the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and the Deafblind community.

The Mayor is a very interesting person as she has previously worked in an ENT department and learnt a bit of sign language but had long forgotten it. She wanted to show her support for the deaf community which fitted with the sign language week’s theme ‘Protecting BSL’ which encouraged people to be a BSL Ally.

She was a fast learner and learnt a short phrase for a video that went out on the Mayor’s Twitter @WolvesMayor and Facebook @wolverhamptonmayor
