THANKS TO THE NATIONAL LOTTERY PLAYERS, OUR NEW 2-YEAR ‘BLACK COUNTRY DEAF REACH’ PROJECT IS NOW LIVE!
Zebra Access is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded £19,450 from The National Lottery Community Fund - Awards for All! Thanks to The National Lottery Players, the funding will support our Black Country Deaf Reach project working with Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing, and Deafened individuals over the next two years providing a scheme of several health-related activities for the Black Country region’s Deaf community, such as:
- Get Deaf Active in BSL – Tai Chi, Chair Exercises for the less mobile, Pilates/Zumba/Aerobics/Yoga sessions.
- Healthy Living – following healthy eating practices,
- Arts and Crafts & Creativity – following seasonal themes.
- Day trips/outings visiting historical places of interest, conservation, and heritage that would benefit a ‘feel good’ factor for those with isolation/mental health (especially post Covid-19)
- Get the Community Talking - bringing the community closer together with extra coffee mornings, drop-ins, shopping trips etc.
- Deaf Health and Wellness workshops to help better understand condition management of common health issues, such as early detection of Diabetes, Dementia/ Alzheimer’s (as the deaf community has a distinct lack of awareness)
- Female health topic workshops (Cervical screenings, Menopause etc) and
- Scam workshops - many Deaf people are falling victim to scams due to their vulnerability, engaging specialist speakers of topics of interests.
Our unique delivery approach is based on in-depth understanding of our Deaf communities’ language, culture and the barriers they face in their daily lives utilising our staff with an abundance of lived experiences.
Bob Marsh, Managing Director of Zebra Access, expressed his excitement:
“We’re absolutely delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund Awards for All has recognised our valuable work. Thanks to The National Lottery players, with this valuable funding, we will be able to continue providing much-needed support to our local Deaf communities for the next two years”
