Domestic Abuse in the Deaf Community
Deirdre, our Community Development Officer did a short talk for Orange Wolves about Domestic Abuse in the Deaf Community.
Deirdre highlighted the numbers of disabled women being in an abusive relations greatly outnumbered the non-disabled women yet there was very little information provided on the statistics from ONS.
Also she highlighted the lack of provisions for Deaf women in abusive situations in guidelines from the local Governments’ DA strategy plans supporting Deaf and disabled women leaving a domestic abusive situation.

Orange Wolves run from 25th November and 10th December yearly
The annual United Nations’ Orange the World campaign takes place over 16 days between 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, and 10th December, UN Human Rights Day.

With the support of funders such as the National Lottery's Community Fund, BFI, Foundations, Trusts and so on, Zebra Access CIO provides a range of free services and support to Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing and Deafened people and communities. Zebra Access staff, volunteers have the right to work in a safe and abuse free environment alongside with service users. The organisation will not tolerate any kind of abuse against its staff, volunteers, service users or property.
