'With Sign Language and Culture We Prosper'
Day 1 – Kirsty introduces Sign Language Week 2019
Hello, it’s Kirsty here from Zebra Access. I’m a BSL tutor and have been for a long time. Recently I’ve been teaching a 6-week winter course. It’s just finished, and I really enjoyed it. The people that came on the course were hearing. Some currently working with Deaf people, some having a Deaf family member, and all were interested in learning basic sign language. They learned the alphabet, the numbers and everyday items of vocabulary. They also earned about facial expressions, gained an understanding into the Deaf community, culture and Deaf awareness at a basic level. I then asked the students if they minded being filmed signing to show what they’d learned. This could help other people be encouraged to come along and learn and they said yes. So, we filmed and have 5 different clips which will be shown every day this week. Today It will be me and then tomorrow and every day this week have a look at the students and what they have to say. Thank you.
